This recipe is adapted from a cutely named smoothie called “Smarty Pants”, that I had numerous times at a Cape Cod smoothie shop. It is packed with nutrients and tastes delicious. Green smoothies take some time getting used to, but really are a great substitute for a salad (liquid form) or a good way to start your day. Feel free to come up with your own version…add chia seeds or flax seed, vary your greens, use almond milk instead of water. Give it a try! You’ll need a good blender or a Vitamix. This recipe makes 20 plus ounces.
1 1/2-2 cups of water (this depends on how thick you like it)
1 cup of fresh or frozen fruit ( I usually combine pineapple, strawberries, blueberries)
1 banana
2 cups of greens (I use a combination of collard greens, spinach and kale)
A sliver of fresh ginger
A scoop of protein powder ( my favorite is Biochem in Natural Flavor) -optional
Combine all the ingredients in a blender. Blend until broken down and smooth. Enjoy!
